Queen of the Night is one of the darkest, moodest tulips available, and she will steal your heart!
Suitable for zones 3-8. Pre-chilling may be required in warmer climates.
Contains 10 bulbs.
Prepare a little hole about twice the size of the bulb to tuck it into. Loosen and sift the soil. Place your tulip bulb (pointy side up) in the hole and fill with the freshly aerated. In warmer climates plant bulbs deeper than 10 inches, as this ensures strong stems. You can space tulips as close as 6" inches apart for a colorful show. If your soil is extremely dry at the time of planting, it is advisable to water the area and plant the tulips the following day.
Tulips prefer full sun, but will tolerate some shade. Tulips require well drained soil and do not like extended periods of wet soil.
Plant bulbs from late October to December. If you're running a little late on your autumn planting- don't worry! In cold winter regions tulips can be planted right up until Christmas day because they only need a short season of growth.
Additional Care Instructions
For the best results in warmer climates, tulip bulbs need to be chilled for a total of about ten weeks in a cold, dry location. Temperatures need to be between 35-48 degrees. You can put them in a refrigerator drawer to easily chill them, but make sure they are not located near any fruit (as fruit gives off a gas that can harm your bulbs).
The absolute best way to pre-chill is find a well-draining pot cover them with light layer of top soil and stick in basement or cellar dark cloth prevent any from reaching them. during this period check topsoil for over-drying if inch feels dry provide watering.
